    • The estimated birth year for Thomas is based on the assumption that he was likely a grown man in 1066 when William the Conqueror began the recording of the Domesday Survey of his taxable holdings in England. That Survey took 20 years to complete (1066-1086) so Thomas may have inherited his lands in Segrave, Leicestershire before or during that period, so even if he was 30 in 1066 or 20 in 1086, his birth year might have been born anywhere from 1036 to 1066. His son, Hugo, died in 1133 and if he was, for example 50 at his death, then he might have been born about 1083 and, if Thomas was around 20 at that time, Thomas' birth would fall at about 1063.
All of this is speculation, but I think using an estimate of 1066 works for now. [1]

    • Thomas is "mentioned in the Domesday Book as part owner of Segrave in Leicestershire sometime during the Domesday Survey between 1066 and 1086. It is not certain when the Survey recorded him, but he was probably alive during the whole period. His son, Hugo, died in 1133 suggesting a possible birth year of about 1083. The Lordship of Segrave passed to Thomas' grandson, Hereward, in 1133, so Thomas was clearly gone by then. If he had been born about 1066 and lived 50 years he could have possibly died around 1116.
      All speculation. [1]
